Phillip Strange is an accomplished jazz artist, composer, and educator, currently living in Japan.  He has performed in the USA, Japan, and Europe with major jazz artists, including Joe Henderson, James Moody, Dave Holland, Peter Erskine, Marc Johnson, Kevin Mahogany, Lew Tabackin, Ernie Watts, Ira Sullivan, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and many others.  He is featured on 40 CDs, both as leader and guest artist, and has performed at major jazz festivals including the Telluride Jazz Festival, Santa Fe Jazz Festival, Takatsuki Jazz Street (Japan), and many others.  He performs regularly at all major jazz venues in Osaka, Kobe, and Kyoto, and on concert tours throughout Japan.  

Quiet (2000), Phillip Strange's debut solo-piano CD, features a mix of standards and original compositions.  In 2005, he released a piano and drum duo CD, In The Moment (Summit Records), featuring Larry Marshall on drums.  It received favorable reviews, and includes both jazz standards and original compositions.  Double Rainbow (2010) is a duo recording of Brazilian music featuring Strange and Tokyo vocalist Yuki Yamaguchi. In May 2011, Dr. Strange released two new recordings, Music Of The Hours, and Open Spaces, featuring Japanese vocalists Yuriko Kodama and Nanami Morikawa, with Philadelphia drummer Larry Marshall and bassist Tetsuro Aratama on bass. And in December 2011, he released Summer Me featuring Yuko Usui. Strange has released companion CDs, One Summer Afternoon, a collection of beautiful jazz standards in November 2011, and Dreamscapes, an exposition of original music, on New Truth Records in May 2013.

In 1999,  Phillip Strange was awarded a university fellowship (full scholarship and stipend) to study at the University of Miami, where he graduated with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree (GPA 4.0) in 2003.  As a doctoral student, Strange received awards in Down Beat Magazine, including Best Instrumental Jazz Soloist (2002, 2003), Best Jazz Original Composition (2002), and Best Jazz Instrumental Group (2001).  Phillip Strange has a Masters Degree in piano performance from Arizona State University (1988), has performed five piano concerti with orchestra, classical piano recitals, and in competitions.  He has taught at the University of Miami, Miami Dade College, Arizona State University, and Grand Canyon College.  In 2005, one of his students won Best Instrumental Jazz Soloist (Down Beat Magazine, 2005). Dr. Strange teaches privately, and at the Koyo School of Music (Kobe, Japan).
